Northern Edge Algonquin DAY:1

feeltoronto2006-08-10

When we reached at the boarding gate of the "Ontario Northern Rail" at Union station, people have already made a long line. There was no seat number on the ticket, but a conductor indicated our seats. He checked all passenger's destination. The 8:40 train left the Union station at 8:50. The train went to north along the route-11 with giving warning whistles when crossing roads. We could enjoy the country scene from the window. At 12:45, we reached at South River station. One of the staff from "Northern Edge Algonquin" waited for us. First he drove us to their office and I paid the tour fee. While they were processing, we had some time to see their gift shop "Blue Canoe". Then, we got back into the car, and went off to the base camp. One of the staff showed us around the campsite. Then we got a couple of hours free time until dinner, we played with water and went short hiking. Dinner was perfect for us. All foods and drinks are good for vegetarian. They used organic or handmade ingredients. It was so healthy and tasty. After dinner, we had a small meeting with canoe trip participants. Exchanged some information of background and instructer showed us the outline of camp schedule. Also, we were handed out all equipments. They showed us "how & what to pack". And we had a slide show on the "Ecology of Wolves". I don't know why, but I get scared of canoing and camping. If only I can't carry the heavy gears, or if only I can't walk on steep slopes, or if I flip in a water.
